Your Digital Social Media Maven: Social Prompts that Wow

Social media posts often need a little extra prompt love to get it right because so many factors go into creating the perfect caption, reel, or photo that will stop the scroll. Here are a few tips for each platform for guiding prompts that provide consistent results.

Anatomy of a Social Media Prompt

First, set your intention and give your AI a personality. Add in the brand voice prompt about what your business does and who it serves if you haven’t trained your AI.

Act as a social media manager who is writing content and taking photos for [your business]

Next, tell it the specifics of your intention. This will include the platform and each element of the post. For instance, Instagram posts have a photo, a caption, and hashtags, so you’d ask for each part individually. Also, include the number of ideas.

Generate three posts for Instagram that include a distinctive photography idea and instructions for photographer, a caption, and three to four hashtags to help increase visibility. Do you have any questions?

These two sections can give you some great ideas, but if you want to take your prompt to another level, include an example from a previous post that did well or an inspiration from another account.

The first prompt will be:

  1.   Add [TWO HASHTAGS YOU HAVE USED BEFORE] to ensure [YOUR TARGET CUSTOMER] sees the post. Photography instructions: [DESCRIBE A PICTURE YOU’VE TAKEN]
    Next

(Yes, the word next is important! it’s prompting your AI assistant to give you more ideas like the one you posted.)

Here are some other platform-specific keywords and phrases you can add in your prompts.

Instagram

  1. “Relatable”: Ask ChatGPT to generate content your target audience can relate to.

  2. “Engaging”: Request for content that will encourage your followers to interact, for example by asking a question or sharing a surprising fact.

  3. “Brand-aligned”: Specify that the content should be consistent with your brand’s voice and values.

  4. “Call-to-action”: Request for a strong CTA (call to action) to be included in the post, such as “click the link in our bio” or “tag a friend who would love this”.

  5. “Hashtag utilization”: Instruct ChatGPT to include relevant hashtags to increase the discoverability of your posts.

  6. “Trending topics”: Ask for content related to current trends or popular topics in your industry.

  7. “Audience-specific”: Specify your target audience, so the content can be tailored to their interests and needs.

  8. “Visual description”: If you provide an image for the post, describe it in detail to ChatGPT so the caption can accurately reflect the image content.
